The logical gaps in contemporary neostoicism
Main Article Content
Abstract
Over the past two decades, Stoicism has experienced a renewed revival across diverse contexts. Unfortunately, this restoration has distorted it due to narcissistic and capitalist biases. This neo-stoicism has turned stoicism into an instrument for purposes that are far removed from to its origins. This is the case of Donald Robertson's therapeutic approach, Ryan Holiday's business approach, and Francisco Vázquez's approach connected to resilience for physical training. It is therefore necessary to expose the shortcomings of these authors and other phenomena associated with this movement. In addition to uncovering the gaps in this neo-Stoicism in relation to logic, one of the three pillars of this philosophy, this article aims to recover the fundamental notions of logic ignored by this new movement. To this end, it uses a methodology of analysis of primary sources and secondary literature in order to restore stoic original foundations and interests. The results and conclusions demonstrate that there is a significant list of elements unknown to the aforementioned neo-Stoicism that must be restored for academic research and social dissemination. It also concludes that the eradication of the fundamental elements of logic in the Stoic reading distorts other Stoic pillars, particularly ethics.
