Circulation and distribution of ethnographic films in Latin America

Abstract
While visual anthropology, as the roof under which is usually wrapped this films, enjoys good health in the region and new educational and research projects are generated every year, It has not been the same with the diffusion, distribution and exhibition despite the long tradition of documentary film linked to the anthropological view in countries such as Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. In the last decade, in parallel, they have significantly changed the logic of consumption and circulation of films. This scene presents new opportunities. The purpose is twofold, on one side analyzes the importance of building spaces for the formation of audiences such as festivals and exhibitions, starting from the premise that the future of every film depends on how it can reach the people. By the other side seeks to provide material for consultation and guidance for those interested in distributing audiovisual works of ethnographic cutting.

Hugo Chávez Carvajal
Hugo Chávez Carvajal (México, 1985). Estudió Etnología en la ENAH y la maestría en Antropología Visual en la FLACSO-Ecuador. Actualmente es doctorante en Ciencias Antropológicas en la UAM-I. Entre 2010 y 2012 se desempeñó como Jefe de Contenidos y Proyectos para Jóvenes del Programa Alas y Raíces del CONACULTA. Es director del corto documental Ojo escoba (2008), ganador del Festival Corto Cinema, y del el mediomentraje documental Obsolescencia (2015), realizado con el apoyo del Programa de Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones Culturales del FONCA y de PROCINE-CDMX, con el que obtuvo mención del jurado en ACAMPADOC, Intima Lente Visual Ethnographic Film Festival y el premio Best Script of a Foreign Film en Etno Film Zlatna en Rumania. Es productor asociado y co-editor del documental Fuera de foco (2013) ganador de Short Shorts México y del Festival do Filme Etnográfico do Recife, y co-editor del documental Víctor Foto Estudio (2014) seleccionado en competencia en FIDOCS, EDOC y AMDOCS. Su trabajo audiovual se ha presentado en Guatemala, Panamá, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica, Rumania, Armenia, Letonia, Italia y Estados Unidos, entre otros.
